Jamshedpur: The Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC) on Thursday demolished six shops during an anti-encroachment drive at Bhalubasa Chowk, acting on directives from deputy commissioner Rajiv Ranjan to remove unauthorized structures and illegal roadside parking across the city.
Anti-Encroachment Drive Details
JNAC deputy town commissioner Krishna Kumar stated, "Three teams have been constituted to carry out the anti-encroachment drive." The operation targeted shops that were allegedly built without proper authorization.
Traders' Allegations
Traders alleged that numerous illegal shops and encroachments exist along the Sakchi-Sidhgora Road, but the administration selectively targeted only six shops. They insisted that no further action should be taken until the court issues its order on the matter.
Affected vendor Sanjay Sao, the sole breadwinner of his family, said, "I have been running the shop at this location for the past 50 years. I received two notices from JNAC and submitted my responses."
Another shopkeeper, Atis Kumar Sonkar, claimed, "I have been operating the shop at the site for over three decades. JNAC demolished the shop without prior notice. Several others are similarly affected."
Previous Actions
On June 16, district transport officials, in coordination with the traffic police, removed unauthorized parking near Bistupur-based PM Mall. A day earlier, municipal officials demolished unauthorized shops at Sakchi Market, while traffic police seized more than a dozen motorcycles parked in no-parking zones in the area.
District transport officer (DTO) Dileep Kumar said, "The drive against illegal parking would be intensified in the coming days."
