Jamshedpur Kidnapping Case Intensifies as Ransom Deadline Expires
Police in Jamshedpur confirmed on Thursday that the family of abducted youth Kairav Gandhi received a massive ransom demand. The kidnappers used WhatsApp to demand Rs 5 crore for his safe return.
Indonesian Number Used for Ransom Call
The threatening message came from an anonymous Indonesian number: +62-831-94765544. The kidnappers gave the family just 48 hours to meet their demand. They threatened to kill the 22-year-old if the ransom was not paid within this deadline.
Kairav Gandhi is the son of prominent industrialist Devan Chandra Gandhi. He went missing on Tuesday from NH-33 under suspicious circumstances. Police recovered his car later that same day near a resort in Kanderbera, Chandil.
Police Investigation Expands Across State Borders
Despite the expiration of the 48-hour deadline, police have not yet made a breakthrough in the case. Multiple specialized teams are now searching for the missing youth across two districts in Jharkhand and two neighboring states.
DIG Anuranjan Kispotta of Kolhan range stated that the investigation is actively progressing. "An investigation is going on," Kispotta said. "It appears to be an abduction case."
A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has taken charge of the case under the leadership of SP Kumar Shivashish. This team has formed seven separate units to explore different angles of the investigation.
Multi-State Search Operation Underway
Police sources revealed that raids are being conducted at suspected hideouts in Bihar, Odisha, and Jharkhand. The search operation involves police forces from East Singhbhum and Seraikela Kharsawan districts.
Forensic experts and a dog squad have joined the effort to trace the missing youth. They are examining multiple locations where Kairav might be held.
Police confirmed that the family received the ransom call on Tuesday, the same day Kairav disappeared. The timing suggests careful planning by the kidnappers.
Community Response and Political Pressure
The kidnapping has sent shockwaves through Jamshedpur's business community. Traders in the Steel City organized special prayers at the Satyanarayan Marwadi temple in Bistupur on Thursday. They recited Hanuman Chalisa for the safe return of the abducted youth.
Local MLA Saryu Roy has taken the matter directly to senior police officials. He met with DGP Tadasha Mishra and East Singhbhum SSP Piyush Pandey to discuss the case.
"The incident has terrified the traders," Roy stated. "Police should get to the bottom of it and try to crack the case soon. Otherwise, people will take to the streets and build pressure on the government."
The case continues to develop as police intensify their search across state borders. Family members and community leaders await any breakthrough in the investigation.
