Jaipur Police Uncover Spa Center Links in Harassment Case, Suspend Officers Over FIR Delay
In a significant development, Jaipur police announced on Monday that the man accused of harassing a pregnant woman in Malviya Nagar has direct connections to two spa centers operating within the city. Authorities are now preparing to take stringent legal action against the owners of these establishments for allegedly providing shelter to the accused individual.
Accused Identified and Spa Centers Shut Down
Police have identified the primary accused as Rahul Gurjar, a resident of Gwalior in Madhya Pradesh. Investigators confirmed that Gurjar maintained direct links with spa operators located in both the Malviya Nagar area and the Tonk Road vicinity of Jaipur.
A senior officer from Jaipur (East) police remarked, "It is indeed surprising that following this incident, when police initiated swift action, both spa centers have remained completely shut. Their owners are reportedly absconding, which raises serious questions about their involvement."
Police Raids and Investigation Progress
Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Ranjita Sharma provided updates on the ongoing investigation, stating that multiple police teams are actively conducting raids across various locations. "Our teams are thoroughly raiding suspected places, and we have obtained some crucial clues regarding his current whereabouts. He will be apprehended very soon. Appropriate legal proceedings will be initiated against the accused for the alleged harassment of the woman," DCP Sharma assured.
Details of the Harassment Incident
The disturbing incident occurred on March 25 at approximately 6:10 PM. The pregnant victim was walking through a lane near Sector 9 in Malviya Nagar when the accused allegedly grabbed her from behind and molested her. When the woman raised an alarm, the perpetrator reportedly picked up a stone to threaten her before fleeing the scene.
Controversy Over FIR Registration Delay
This case has also triggered substantial action concerning an alleged delay in registering the formal complaint. The victim approached the police station on March 26, but her complaint was not immediately registered as a First Information Report (FIR). Instead, it was kept pending under the pretext of conducting a preliminary inquiry.
The FIR was finally lodged on Sunday, only after the matter gained public attention and following direct intervention from police headquarters. This delay has led to serious repercussions for the officers involved.
Departmental Actions and Suspensions
Head Constable Angadram Meena, who was initially assigned to investigate the case, has been accused of negligence in handling the complaint. Additionally, the then duty officer, Assistant Sub-Inspector Mahesh Chand, allegedly failed to appreciate the gravity of the incident. Both officers have been suspended with immediate effect, and a comprehensive departmental inquiry has been ordered to examine their conduct.
Formation of Special Investigation Team
To ensure a transparent and thorough investigation, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been constituted. This team is meticulously examining CCTV footage from the police station to establish the exact sequence of events and determine whether there was any deliberate delay in the FIR registration process.
The SIT's findings are expected to provide clarity on procedural lapses and hold accountable those responsible for any misconduct. The Jaipur police remain committed to delivering justice in this sensitive case while reinforcing public trust in law enforcement mechanisms.
