Jabalpur Doctor's Deathbed Video Ignites Rs 60 Crore Property Dispute
In a poignant and distressing scene from her hospital bed just days before her passing, 82-year-old Dr Hemlata Shrivastava made a final, trembling plea that has since erupted into a bitter Rs 60-crore property dispute. The frail octogenarian doctor, with her voice shaking, alleged she was deceived into signing away her lifetime's earnings, a claim that has now become the centerpiece of a major legal controversy.
Viral Video Prompts Official Action
The video recording, which quickly went viral on social media platforms, prompted immediate official action from local authorities. This footage has returned to haunt her chosen heir even after her death, highlighting the deep tensions surrounding the case. Dr Shrivastava had been unwell for some time and was admitted to the hospital approximately two weeks prior to her demise.
Her final rites were conducted at the Gwarighat crematorium under tight police security, a reflection of the escalating tensions and potential for conflict. The ceremony was attended by her sister and members of the Gayatri Parivar, underscoring the involvement of multiple parties in the unfolding drama.
Prime Property at the Heart of the Controversy
At the core of this dispute is a substantial piece of real estate spanning around 25,000 square feet located in the upscale Wright Town area of Jabalpur. Following the tragic deaths of her son in 2022 and her husband in December 2024, Dr Shrivastava executed a series of registered gift deeds earlier this year.
On January 14, 2026, she transferred 11,000 square feet of this valuable property to her late son's friend, Dr Sumit Jain, and his wife, Prachi Jain. Merely six days later, on January 20, she donated the remaining 14,000 square feet to the Gayatri Parivar, a spiritual organization. The total property is estimated to be worth nearly Rs 60 crore, making it a highly significant asset.
Allegations of Fraud and Misrepresentation
What initially appeared on paper as voluntary donations has rapidly spiraled into a major legal and ethical dispute. While undergoing treatment at the medical college hospital, Dr Shrivastava recorded a video in which she directly accused Dr Jain and his wife of fraudulently obtaining the land transfer.
She vehemently alleged that she never intended to donate the property of her own free will, claiming she was deliberately misled and manipulated into signing the documents. Around the same time, additional complaints surfaced, including serious allegations of her abduction, which have further complicated the investigation.
The case continues to develop as legal authorities examine the evidence, with the deathbed video serving as a critical piece of testimony in what promises to be a protracted and highly contentious battle over the rightful ownership of this valuable estate.
