Senior IPS Officer Devesh Srivastava Appointed as Tihar Jail Director General
In a significant administrative move, senior IPS officer Devesh Chandra Srivastava has been assigned the additional charge of Director General (DG) of Tihar Jail with immediate effect. The official order was issued on Friday with the approval of Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena.
Filling a Critical Vacancy
This appointment comes after Delhi's three major prison complexes remained without a Director General for the past nine days. Srivastava, a distinguished 1995-batch IPS officer, is currently serving as the Special Commissioner of Police (Crime) in Delhi Police. He will hold this additional responsibility until a regular incumbent is formally appointed.
Tihar Jail, recognized as one of the largest prison complexes in India, comprises multiple jails and houses thousands of inmates. The assignment of a senior officer to oversee its operations is viewed as a crucial step to ensure continuity and effective management in prison administration.
Broader Administrative Reshuffle Underway
In a related development, Anil Shukla, a 1996-batch IPS officer and Special Commissioner of Police in charge of Delhi Police's Special Cell, has been given the additional charge of Director General of Home Guards. This indicates a broader restructuring within the Delhi Police hierarchy.
Officials have hinted that more reshuffle orders are likely in the coming days, affecting ranks from Deputy Commissioner of Police to Special Commissioners. It is anticipated that nearly ten district DCPs will be reassigned. Beyond field policing, the restructuring is expected to bring changes in the leadership of key units such as the Law and Order branch, Crime Branch, and Economic Offences Wing.
Furthermore, some senior officers may be reassigned to territories outside Delhi to maintain cadre rotation, ensuring a dynamic and experienced administrative framework.
