A one-and-a-half-month-old infant was rescued by alert villagers after being snatched by a monkey in Didoli village of Amroha district, Uttar Pradesh. The incident occurred on Monday evening, highlighting the growing monkey menace in the area.
Dramatic Rescue Unfolds in Didoli Village
The terrifying episode began when Mukesh Kumar, 27, his wife Rekha Devi, 24, and their baby boy were sleeping on a cot in the courtyard of their house. When Rekha briefly went into the kitchen, a monkey entered the courtyard, picked up the infant, and climbed onto the roof with the child.
Hearing the infant's screams, Rekha rushed out of the kitchen and immediately shouted for help. According to the baby's uncle, Vikas Kumar, neighbors quickly gathered at the scene. They carefully avoided scaring the animal, fearing it might drop the baby from the rooftop.
Strategic Rescue Operation by Villagers
The villagers acted with remarkable caution and ingenuity. They began throwing rotis toward the monkey to divert its attention away from the infant. Lured by the food, the monkey eventually left the baby on the roof and moved away to eat.
Seizing this critical opportunity, several villagers quickly climbed up to the roof and rescued the infant safely. The entire rescue operation demonstrated exceptional community coordination and presence of mind.
Growing Monkey Menace Sparks Concern
Following this alarming incident, residents have demanded immediate action from the administration to control the growing monkey population in the area. Block development officer Joya Lokchand Anand confirmed that the forest department has been instructed to capture monkeys and assured that effective measures would be implemented.
Village head Mahipal Singh expressed serious concerns about frequent monkey attacks that have terrorized local residents. "Women and children fear stepping out of their houses," he stated. "The monkeys often attack women drying clothes on rooftops and snatch bags from children going to school. Shopkeepers have also complained of regular thefts from their shops and carts."
The incident has brought renewed attention to human-wildlife conflict in rural areas of Uttar Pradesh, where monkey populations have been increasing and creating safety concerns for residents.
