In a significant crackdown on narcotics trade, the Heera Nagar police in Indore apprehended a suspected drug peddler and confiscated a substantial quantity of brown sugar valued at approximately Rs 1 lakh. The arrest was made following a vigilant patrol operation conducted on Thursday night.
Vigilant Patrol Leads to Suspicious Activity
According to Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Rubina Mizwani, a team from the Heera Nagar police station was engaged in its routine area patrolling and checking of suspicious individuals. The operation led them to the ISBT road located under the MR-10 bridge. During this surveillance, the officers' attention was drawn to a man whose demeanor immediately raised red flags.
The individual appeared visibly nervous upon spotting the police personnel. His suspicious stance and anxious behavior prompted the alert team to swiftly cordon off the area and detain him for questioning.
Recovery of Narcotics and Identity of Accused
A thorough search of the suspect was conducted in the presence of independent witnesses. This search proved fruitful as the police team discovered 7.40 grams of brown sugar concealed in a bag slung over his shoulder. The illicit substance was immediately seized following all due legal protocols.
The accused was identified as 27-year-old Uday Singh Sengar, a resident of Sector A in Sukhlia, Indore. He was promptly taken into custody. Investigations revealed that Sengar is not a first-time offender but a habitual criminal with a significant record.
A Habitual Offender with a Criminal Past
Police officials disclosed that Uday Singh Sengar has a lengthy criminal background. More than half a dozen cases are already registered against him in connection with various offences. It was further alleged that he frequently concealed his real identity while carrying out his illicit activities, a tactic used to evade law enforcement.
Following the seizure and arrest, the Heera Nagar police have registered a formal case against Sengar under the stringent Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The ongoing investigation aims to uncover his supply chain and possible associates in the drug trade network operating in the region.
This successful operation underscores the continued efforts of the Indore Police to combat the menace of drug peddling and make the city's streets safer for its citizens.
