In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, the Indore police have arrested a man and seized a consignment of cannabis valued at nearly Rs 60,000. The arrest is part of an intensified surveillance drive against narcotics in the city.
How the Accused Was Caught
The operation was carried out by the crime branch team. Officers noticed a man, identified as Shyamnath alias Shambhu, exhibiting suspicious behaviour while waiting on a two-wheeler with a bag near the Pashu Chikitsalaya on Patthar Godam Road.
The team intercepted him for questioning. Upon searching the bag tied to his vehicle, they allegedly recovered 2.30 kg of cannabis. The accused, a resident of Indore, reportedly works as a daily wage labourer and studied only up to class seven.
Interrogation Reveals Supply Network
During interrogation, the accused is said to have confessed to his involvement in the drug trade. He admitted to purchasing the narcotic substance at lower rates and then supplying it at higher prices to users in various parts of Indore.
Police have also seized the two-wheeler used in the crime. With this, the total estimated value of the recovery has increased to more than Rs 140,000.
Legal Action and Ongoing Drive
A case has been registered under sections 8 and 20 of the NDPS Act at the crime branch police station. The accused remains under arrest as further legal proceedings continue.
Senior officers stated that this action is part of a broader initiative. Under the directions of the police commissioner, intensified action against illegal drug trafficking is being carried out across Indore, with a focus on identifying and dismantling local supply networks.
The police have also made an appeal to citizens. They urge the public to share any information related to narcotics with authorities to support the ongoing enforcement measures aimed at safeguarding public safety.
