Indian-Origin Restaurateur Faces Trial for Alleged Drink Spiking at London's Elite Annabel's Club
A prominent restaurant owner of Indian heritage is currently standing trial in the United Kingdom after being apprehended while attempting to spike a woman's beverage with a substance classified as a date-rape drug. The incident, which has sent shockwaves through London's high-society circles, occurred at one of the city's most exclusive private members' establishments.
The Incident at the Exclusive Mayfair Venue
Sixty-three-year-old Vikas Nath, who owns a string of upscale restaurants across the UK and Spain—including two establishments with coveted Michelin stars—was sitting with the woman on the rooftop garden bar of the prestigious Annabel's club in Mayfair. According to court proceedings and reports from The London Standard, Nath used a straw to introduce gamma-butyrolactone (GBL) into the woman's spicy margarita.
Alert staff members at Annabel's noticed suspicious behavior: Nath was observed dipping a straw into a small bottle of vanilla extract he had retrieved from his pocket, sucking up liquid, and then depositing it into the cocktail. Their quick thinking proved crucial in preventing a potential tragedy.
Swift Intervention by Club Staff
The vigilant employees immediately replaced the contaminated drink before the woman could consume it, thereby averting what could have been a devastating outcome. When police were summoned to the scene, Nath attempted to dispose of evidence by throwing the bottle into a toilet. "This case is unusual because there's no dispute Mr Nath spiked her drink," Clark stated. "His acceptance is not surprising, he had little choice because the spiking was captured on CCTV at Annabel's. Due to the actions of quick-thinking staff, the spiked drink was retrieved, and she was warned. Staff replaced it with a fresh one, and police were called to the club."

While Nath admits to spiking the drink, he has presented a contradictory narrative in his defense.
