IBM Software Engineer Found Dead in Agra Home
A 45-year-old software engineer working with IBM was found dead with a bullet injury at his residence in Agra on Friday morning, sparking a police investigation into whether the incident was an accidental shooting or a suspected suicide.
Gyanendra Sharma, the deceased engineer, was at home with his wife when the tragic incident occurred between 9 and 10 am. The firearm involved belonged to his father, a retired junior commissioned officer (JCO) of the Indian Army.
Conflicting Accounts Emerge
Family members told police that Sharma was cleaning the rifle when a bullet accidentally discharged, fatally injuring him. According to their statement, his parents were away attending a condolence meeting, his children were at school, and his wife was in the kitchen at the time of the incident.
Sharma's father supported the accidental firing theory, stating that it appeared to be a tragic cleaning accident. However, police authorities have expressed doubts about this version of events.
Police Suspect Suicide Based on Forensic Evidence
DCP (City) Sayed Ali Abbas revealed that police are treating the matter as a suspected suicide based on evidence collected from the scene. "Initially, we were informed that the bullet was fired during cleaning of the barrel, but forensic teams found some incriminating material suggesting a suspected suicide," Abbas stated.
The police official confirmed that no formal complaint has been filed by the family, and while there is no suicide note, investigators are exploring all possible angles. Police have seized the rifle and are verifying the license and storage details as part of their ongoing investigation.

Gyanendra Sharma worked as a software engineer with IBM and was currently working from home due to the pandemic situation. He lived with his wife, children, and parents in the Agra residence where the incident occurred.
Neighbors alerted the police after discovering the situation, following which the body was sent for postmortem examination to determine the exact circumstances of death.
