In a shocking incident, the residence of a senior Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer in an upscale south Delhi neighbourhood was targeted by burglars, who made off with valuables estimated to be worth around Rs 60 lakh. The officer was not present in the city at the time of the crime.
Discovery of the Theft
The burglary came to light on Friday afternoon when the officer's nephew visited the house in Block-E of Greater Kailash Enclave-II. He immediately noticed something was amiss. The main gate of the property was found open, raising his suspicions. Upon entering, he discovered a scene of disarray—all interior doors were open, and household items were scattered across the premises, clear signs of a break-in and theft.
Police Investigation Launched
The nephew promptly alerted the police via a PCR call. A team from the Chittaranjan Park police station rushed to the spot to begin their investigation. During preliminary enquiries, the nephew informed the police that the house belonged to his uncle, the IAS officer, who was away from Delhi following the tragic death of his son.
Police sources revealed that the stolen items include a significant amount of jewellery, cash, and other precious articles. The preliminary estimated loss stands at approximately Rs 60 lakh, though authorities have stated that the exact value of the stolen property is still being meticulously assessed.
Ongoing Probe and FIR
Law enforcement has taken swift action in response to the high-profile burglary. An First Information Report (FIR) has been officially registered, marking the formal start of the investigative process. Forensic experts and crime scene investigators have examined the premises for clues, including possible fingerprints or other evidence left behind by the perpetrators.
"The investigation is actively underway," stated a senior police officer familiar with the case. The police are likely reviewing CCTV footage from cameras in the affluent colony and questioning neighbours to gather any information about suspicious persons or activities in the area around the time of the incident. The case highlights concerns about security in one of the capital's most prestigious residential areas.
