In a distressing incident in Hyderabad, two horses were left with severe injuries after being struck by an unidentified vehicle in a hit-and-run case. The accident occurred on the Balapur-Venkatpur road, sending shockwaves through the local community and prompting a swift response from animal welfare authorities.
Residents Alert Police After Discovering Injured Animals
The plight of the horses came to light when alert residents spotted the two animals lying injured on the roadway. They immediately notified the Balapur police, who rushed to the scene. Upon arrival, officers found both horses in a serious condition, suffering from what appeared to be major trauma.
Recognising the need for specialised care, the police quickly contacted People For Animals (PFA) Abhaya, a prominent animal rescue organisation in the city. The collaboration between law enforcement and animal activists was crucial in managing the emergency.
Swift Rescue and Critical Medical Care
Rescue teams from PFA Abhaya responded without delay. With support from the police, they carefully transported the injured horses to the PFA Abhaya Emergency Rescue Home located in Fathullaguda, Nagole.
The animals are currently undergoing intensive treatment at the facility. D Joshi, the head of PFA Abhaya, confirmed that the horses had sustained serious trauma. Their medical condition remains critical as veterinarians work to stabilise them.
Police Investigation and Unanswered Questions
The Balapur police have launched an investigation into the circumstances that led to the accident. Balapur CI Sudhakar provided preliminary details, stating, "Our initial investigation suggests the horses may have been fighting with each other when they came into contact with the vehicle. The driver fled the scene afterward."
Several key questions remain unanswered. The police have confirmed that there is no clarity so far regarding the ownership of the horses or how they ended up on the busy road. Authorities are actively working to trace the owner of the animals and identify the vehicle responsible for the hit-and-run.
