Hyderabad Task Force Apprehends Two Accused in Violent ATM Robbery Case

In a significant breakthrough, the Hyderabad Task Force has arrested two individuals involved in a brazen robbery where Rs 6 lakh was stolen from a Kerala-based garments businessman, PV Rinshad. The incident occurred near an SBI ATM in Koti on January 31, with the assailants opening fire during the crime.

Identities and Recoveries in the Robbery Case

The arrested suspects have been identified as Furkhan Ahmed (36), hailing from Saharanpur district in Uttar Pradesh, and Md Taiyyab Tyagi (30), a resident of Shaheen Nagar in Balapur, Hyderabad. During the arrest, police made crucial recoveries, including:

  • A country-made pistol
  • 35 live rounds of ammunition
  • Two magazines
  • Rs 2.3 lakh in cash
  • Two mobile phones

These items were seized from the duo, providing key evidence in the ongoing investigation.

Background and Planning of the Criminal Operation

According to police reports, Taiyyab, who works as a driver for app-based cab aggregators, utilized his early-morning routes through areas like Abids, Koti, and Nampally to observe customers making large cash deposits at banks. Facing financial hardships and with a prior involvement in a robbery case in Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh, he orchestrated this crime.

Taiyyab contacted his uncle Naushad and cousin Danish Tyagi, who subsequently enlisted Furkhan, Abid, and Faheem Ahmed, all from Uttar Pradesh, to form the gang. This collaboration highlights a network of individuals with criminal backgrounds operating across state lines.

Execution of the Robbery and Subsequent Escape

On January 31, the gang executed their plan meticulously. Furkhan and Faheem positioned themselves near an ATM in Koti, while Taiyyab and Abid conducted reconnaissance near Nampally to identify a potential victim. They targeted PV Rinshad, tracking his movements to the SBI ATM.

When the accused attempted to rob him, Rinshad resisted, prompting Furkhan to fire two rounds from the pistol. One bullet pierced the victim's leg, causing injury. The duo then snatched the cash bag containing Rs 6 lakh and fled the scene on the victim's two-wheeler, demonstrating a violent and calculated approach.

Police Investigation and Arrest Details

After the robbery, the gang regrouped at Shaheen Nagar before dispersing to different states to evade capture. The Hyderabad police launched an intensive investigation, deploying six special teams that utilized technical surveillance to track the suspects.

Their efforts culminated in the apprehension of Furkhan Ahmed and Md Taiyyab Tyagi at Shaheen Nagar on February 24. Authorities are continuing their efforts to nab the remaining absconding accused, including Abid, Faheem Ahmed, Naushad, and Danish Tyagi, to ensure full justice in this case.

Implications and Ongoing Efforts

This arrest underscores the effectiveness of coordinated police work in tackling violent crimes in urban areas like Hyderabad. The recovery of firearms and ammunition raises concerns about weapon proliferation, while the interstate connections of the accused highlight the need for cross-jurisdictional cooperation in law enforcement.

As the investigation progresses, police are focusing on dismantling the entire criminal network involved. The case serves as a reminder of the risks associated with carrying large sums of cash and the importance of public vigilance in preventing such incidents.
