Hyderabad Police Use Gig Worker Impersonation to Trap Hit-and-Run Driver

Hyderabad police employed an unusual tactic to capture a wanted SUV driver involved in a fatal hit-and-run case. Officers from Saidabad police station impersonated a gig worker to lure the suspect out of hiding.

Fatal Accident Claims Young Man's Life

The incident began early Saturday morning at Champapet. D Sunil Kumar, a 28-year-old man, was riding his motorcycle when an SUV struck him from behind. The collision dragged his bike for more than 50 meters along the road.

Kumar sustained multiple serious injuries in the crash. He received immediate medical treatment but could not survive his wounds. The young man succumbed to his injuries on Sunday, just one day after the terrible accident.

Police Investigation and Creative Trap

Investigators quickly reviewed several CCTV recordings from the area. They identified the vehicle number and traced it through Regional Transport Authority records. When police visited the registered address, they discovered the vehicle owner's family no longer lived there.

Officers gathered information from local residents and obtained a contact number. When they called the number, a woman answered the phone. This is when police devised their clever plan.

A police source explained their strategy: "The caller claimed to be a gig worker delivering a parcel booked in her name and phone number. She believed this story and shared her location. Then she sent her son outside to collect the supposed delivery."

Once the young man emerged, waiting police officers immediately apprehended him. The trap worked perfectly to bring the suspect into custody.

Student Driver Faces Serious Charges

Questioning revealed the accused is a Bachelor of Business Administration student. At the time of the offense, he was traveling with two friends from IS Sadan to Vanasthalipuram.

Police sources described what happened: "This was a clear case of dangerous overspeeding. The BBA student hit the victim's bike from behind with significant force. He was supposed to meet another friend in Vanasthalipuram who planned to visit the United Kingdom. The accused intended to drop this friend at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport."

The SUV involved in the crash is registered in his father's name. Authorities have taken the young man into custody for detailed questioning. Formal arrest procedures are still pending as the investigation continues.

The video of the police operation went viral on social media platforms on Saturday. Many people have commented on both the tragic loss of life and the creative police work that led to the suspect's capture.
