In a significant crackdown, the North Zone police in Hyderabad have successfully solved two separate theft cases, leading to the arrest of three individuals and the recovery of gold and silver ornaments valued at around Rs 31 lakh. The investigations revealed a pattern of thefts allegedly committed by domestic help over an extended period.
Jewellery Businessman Targeted in Bowenpally
The first case was registered at the Kharkhana police station. The complainant, Gajawada Sridhar (52), a jewellery businessman from Bowenpally, reported to the police that gold ornaments and gold biscuits had been mysteriously disappearing from his house over some time. Acting on suspicion, the police initiated an investigation.
The probe led the authorities to examine the domestic maid, Uragadda Madhavi (35), and her husband, Uragadda Krishnaiah (40). Upon interrogation, it was discovered that the duo had allegedly committed multiple thefts, systematically pilfering gold ornaments and biscuits from Sridhar's residence.
The police apprehended the couple on Monday and made a crucial recovery. The stolen property, weighing a total of 24.2 tulas, included gold ornaments and melted gold pieces. Investigators found that a portion of the stolen gold had been melted down and converted into ornaments for the accused's personal use. The arrested individuals were produced before a court and remanded to judicial custody. A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Housewife's Valuables Stolen in Bollarum
In a parallel incident, a second case was filed at the Bollarum police station. A 53-year-old housewife residing on Doveton Road reported the theft of her gold and silver ornaments. She discovered the valuables missing while checking her almirah before a planned trip, which prompted her to alert the police.
The woman suspected her maid servant, who had been employed only in July 2025. Based on her complaint, the police registered a case and swiftly acted to trace the accused. The stolen property was recovered from the maid, identified as Jajala Sindhu alias Chinnari.
The items recovered in this case included:
- A gold necklace weighing 5.1 tulas
- A melted gold piece weighing 2 tulas
- Various silver articles with a total weight of 61 tulas
Police Vigilance Leads to Swift Resolution
The successful resolution of both cases underscores the effectiveness of prompt reporting and police vigilance. The North Zone police's coordinated efforts led to the quick apprehension of the suspects and the recovery of high-value stolen goods. These incidents serve as a cautionary tale for residents to maintain thorough checks on domestic staff and secure their valuables. The police have reiterated their commitment to tackling property crimes and ensuring the safety of citizens' assets in Hyderabad.
