Rachakonda Police Report 15% Crime Rise in 2025, Cybercrime Falls 19%
Hyderabad: Overall crime up 15% in Rachakonda in 2025

The Rachakonda police commissionerate in Hyderabad has released its annual crime data for 2025, revealing a complex picture of law and order. While the overall number of criminal cases registered saw a significant increase, certain specific categories, including crimes against women and cyber offences, recorded a notable decline.

Key Statistics: A Mixed Bag of Trends

Police Commissioner Sudheer Babu stated that a total of 30,040 cases were registered in 2025. This marks an increase from the 28,626 cases filed in the previous year, 2024, representing an overall rise of approximately 15%. Despite this uptick, the police managed to complete investigations in a substantial 25,643 cases.

Delving into specific crime heads, the data shows a decrease of 4% in crimes targeting women. In a more dramatic positive shift, cybercrime incidents fell by 19%. The police attribute this significant drop in online offences to sustained public awareness campaigns conducted throughout the year.

However, not all trends were positive. Cases registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act rose sharply, from 392 in 2024 to 516 in 2025. While rape cases showed a decline, incidents involving the kidnapping and molestation of women increased. On a brighter note, property offences decreased by 15%.

Enforcement Actions and Major Drives

The police's anti-drug efforts yielded substantial results. Under a dedicated drive, authorities seized contraband worth Rs 20 crore and arrested 495 individuals. Furthermore, the police opened 227 suspect sheets against those booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

The judicial process also saw convictions for serious crimes. Courts handed down life imprisonment sentences to 31 offenders convicted of grave offences. An additional 146 individuals were convicted and received prison terms ranging from one to 20 years.

Addressing Internal Challenges and Ongoing Probes

Commissioner Sudheer Babu also addressed the sensitive issue of police personnel being ensnared by online betting and debt traps. He revealed that senior officials are in the process of framing a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP). This SOP aims to proactively identify and counsel vulnerable personnel before they fall into severe financial distress.

Regarding the high-profile case of vandalism at the Medipally office of MLC Teenmar Mallanna, allegedly involving cadres of Telangana Jagruthi, the Commissioner confirmed that the investigation is still ongoing. He added that among the accused in this case are suspended BRS leader and MLC K Kavitha and Mallanna himself.
