A horrific incident in Hyderabad's Malkajgiri area has resulted in the death of a seven-year-old girl, allegedly at the hands of her own mother. The tragedy unfolded on Monday afternoon, around 2:30 pm, when the woman is accused of hurling her daughter from the second-floor balcony of their rented home.
A Fatal Act in a Fit of Rage
According to the Malkajgiri police, the immediate trigger for the violent act was a dispute over a mobile phone. The child, a Class 1 student, was using her mother's phone when the mother asked for it back to make a call. When the girl refused, her mother forcibly took the phone, causing the child to cry incessantly. "In a fit of rage, the woman picked up the child and flung her from the balcony," stated Sub-Inspector N Kondalu, who is investigating the case.
The victim fell onto the first floor of the adjacent building, sustaining severe head injuries. Alerted by the commotion, neighbours rushed the grievously injured girl to a nearby private hospital. Doctors there declared her "brought dead." Her body was subsequently shifted to Gandhi Hospital for a post-mortem examination before being handed over to the family for the final rites.
Prolonged Domestic Discord as Root Cause
Police investigations quickly revealed that the incident was not an isolated outburst but the tragic culmination of deep-seated family problems. The preliminary probe points to prolonged and severe domestic discord between the woman and her husband. The couple, who have two minor children, have been living in the G+2 building in Malkajgiri since 2009.
"The girl's parents were involved in frequent domestic disputes. The mother told us that there were regular fights at home and that she was facing severe emotional stress and sleep deprivation due to marital issues," explained SI N Kondalu. During interrogation, the husband corroborated the account of constant altercations. He revealed that after these fights, his wife would often beat the children and even threaten to die by suicide after killing them. A similar argument had preceded Monday's fatal incident.
Legal Action and Aftermath
Following the tragedy, the Malkajgiri police have taken swift legal action. They have booked a case under section 103 (punishment for murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and arrested the mother. In a poignant detail, police confirmed that the accused mother attended her daughter's last rites on Tuesday before being taken into formal custody.
