Hyderabad: Fog Suspected in 3-Car Crash on PVNR Expressway

A severe three-vehicle collision on Monday night brought one of Hyderabad's key arterial roads to a complete halt, triggering extensive traffic chaos and leaving commuters stranded for hours.

Accident Details and Suspected Cause

The pileup occurred at approximately 10 pm on Monday on the heavily used PVNR Expressway. The precise location was near pillar number 112 in the Attapur area. Preliminary investigations by the police point to reduced visibility due to fog as the likely reason behind the accident.

Gudimalkapur Station House Officer (SHO) B. Raju provided details of the incident. He confirmed that despite the severity of the crash, all occupants of the three cars escaped with only minor injuries. This was a fortunate outcome given the scale of the collision.

Massive Disruption and Relief Efforts

Commuters traveling to and from the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) in Shamshabad were among the worst affected. Numerous passengers and vehicles found themselves stuck on the road for several hours, causing significant inconvenience and potential travel delays.

Upon receiving alerts, police teams swiftly reached the spot and initiated relief operations. The damaged cars were eventually cleared from the carriageway using a crane. This operation allowed traffic to slowly return to normal. The individuals who sustained injuries were transported to a nearby hospital, where they received treatment as outpatients and were subsequently discharged.

Investigation Underway

The local authorities have taken formal action by registering a case in connection with the nighttime accident. The investigation is currently ongoing to ascertain the exact sequence of events and confirm the primary cause.

This incident highlights the recurring challenges of driving on high-speed corridors during winter nights when fog can dramatically reduce visibility, urging commuters to exercise extra caution.
