Hyderabad Police Deports Nigerian National for Illegal Stay and Alleged Drug Links
The Hyderabad Narcotic Enforcement Wing deported a Nigerian national on Tuesday. Police acted on credible information about his illegal stay and alleged unlawful activities.
Expired Documents and Suspicious Movements
Officers identified the foreign national as Obasi James Victor. He is 38 years old and comes from the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Authorities repatriated him to his home country early Tuesday morning.
Vaibhav Gaikwad, the Deputy Commissioner of Police for H-NEW, provided details. Victor first entered India on December 31, 2011. He arrived at Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport on a tourist visa.
Victor initially ran a cloth export business to Nigeria. He later established a restaurant in Delhi called 'William African Restaurant.' He lived in Delhi with his family during this period.
Police confirmed that Victor's passport and visa expired several years ago. He continued to stay in India illegally after their expiry. During his illegal stay, he allegedly connected with drug peddlers. Authorities suspected his involvement in drug trafficking and other unlawful acts.
Detection and Deportation Process
H-NEW officers detected Victor in Tolichowki last month. He was moving under suspicious circumstances at the time. When questioned, he could not produce valid travel or residential documents. He also failed to give a satisfactory explanation for his presence in Hyderabad.
During interrogation, Victor admitted he did not possess a valid passport or visa. He confessed to overstaying in India after his documents expired.
The Hyderabad Narcotic Enforcement Wing then initiated deportation proceedings. They coordinated closely with the Foreigners Regional Registration Office in Hyderabad.
Since Victor's original travel documents were no longer valid, authorities obtained an Emergency Travel Document from the Nigerian High Commission. They also secured an exit permit from the FRRO in Hyderabad.
Officials arranged his travel from Rajiv Gandhi International Airport to Lagos, Nigeria. The DCP stated that the deportation aimed to prevent the foreign national from engaging in activities considered harmful to national security.
This action underscores ongoing efforts by Hyderabad police to address illegal immigration and associated criminal activities. The case highlights the procedures followed when foreign nationals overstay their visas and come under suspicion for unlawful behavior.
