Hyderabad Constable Arrested for Sexual Exploitation and Forced Abortions of Woman Colleague

A police constable in Hyderabad has been arrested on serious charges of sexually exploiting a woman colleague under the false pretense of marriage and coercing her into multiple abortions. The distressing case has sent shockwaves through the local law enforcement community.

Traumatic Exploitation Leads to Suicide Attempt

The victim, a woman constable and mother of a four-year-old son, was in the process of divorcing her husband, who is also a constable. During this vulnerable period, the accused constable allegedly developed a close relationship with her. Police officials state that he exploited her trust by repeatedly promising marriage, which led to a sexual relationship.

As a direct consequence of this exploitation, the woman became pregnant twice. Each time, the accused constable reportedly forced her to terminate the pregnancies against her will. The psychological and physical trauma from these events took a severe toll on the survivor.

Discovery of Betrayal and Subsequent Suicide Bid

The situation escalated when the survivor discovered that the accused had begun a similar relationship with another woman constable. She confronted him and the other woman, warning her colleague to stay away. This confrontation revealed the accused's true intentions, as he bluntly informed the victim that he had no plans to marry her and blamed her for ruining his chances with the new constable.

Devastated by this betrayal and the accumulated trauma, the victim attempted to end her life on April 14 by consuming a large quantity of sleeping pills in her room. She remained unconscious until April 16, when she regained consciousness and contacted her colleagues for help.

Medical Treatment and Legal Action

Her colleagues immediately rushed her to a private hospital in Somajiguda, where she received urgent medical care. After treatment, her condition stabilized, and she is currently recuperating in the hospital.

Based on her detailed statement, the Jubilee Hills police registered a formal case against the accused constable under Section 69 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which deals with sexual intercourse by employing deceitful means. The arrest was made on Saturday, following the filing of the case on Friday.

Broader Implications and Community Impact

This case highlights several critical issues within professional environments, particularly in law enforcement:

  • The vulnerability of individuals undergoing personal crises, such as divorce proceedings.
  • The severe consequences of emotional manipulation and false promises in relationships.
  • The importance of institutional support systems for victims of exploitation.
  • The legal ramifications under new statutes like the BNS for such deceptive practices.

The Hyderabad police department is now faced with addressing the internal fallout from this incident, ensuring justice for the survivor, and potentially reviewing protocols to prevent similar occurrences. The survivor's courage in coming forward has set a precedent for holding perpetrators accountable, regardless of their position within the force.
