Hyderabad AIS Officer Faces Sexual Harassment Charges in Neighborhood Dispute

In a shocking incident from Hyderabad, the Banjara Hills police have registered a case against an All India Services (AIS) officer on charges of sexual harassment. The complaint was filed by a 33-year-old woman AIS officer who resides in the same neighborhood, alleging that the male officer used lewd language and made vulgar gestures during a recent altercation.

Dispute Over Dog Poop Escalates to Harassment Allegations

The conflict reportedly began over dog feces in a common area but quickly intensified. According to the complainant, the 37-year-old male officer allegedly passed objectionable comments "in a vulgar tone" and engaged in sexually offensive behavior. The woman officer claimed that on April 13 at around 6:40 PM, she heard commotion outside her quarters and went to investigate.

"I heard my neighbour abusing my staff and my dog. He kept opening and shutting his door, making a loud noise each time. He came out and said, ‘Bhabhi, come, let's smoke a cigarette,' in a vulgar tone and kept repeating it," the complaint detailed. Additionally, the male officer is accused of damaging her flower pots during the incident.

Police Investigation and Legal Action

Based on the complaint, police registered a case under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS):

  • Section 75 (sexual harassment)
  • Section 79 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman)
  • Section 324(4) (mischief)
  • Section 351(2) (criminal intimidation)
  • Section 352 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace)

The male officer was taken to the police station for questioning. "We let him go after issuing a notice requiring him to be available for further interrogation since the maximum punishment under these sections is less than seven years. We will inform his head of department about the incident as well," stated an official from the Banjara Hills police.

Evidence and Further Investigation

The complainant recorded the entire incident, capturing the male officer repeatedly making sexually offensive remarks and obscene gestures. This video evidence was handed over to the police, strengthening the case against him.

During questioning, the male officer explained that he saw dog poop near his door and, suspecting the complainant's pet dog was responsible, confronted her about negligence. "When our team inspected the premises, they realised that there are a lot of stray dogs around the quarters that often poop in the common area. We are probing the matter further to ascertain why the male officer resorted to obscene behavior," added a police official.

The investigation continues as authorities work to determine the full circumstances behind the altercation and the alleged harassment. This case highlights serious concerns about professional conduct among government officials and the escalation of neighborhood disputes into criminal allegations.
