Hyderabad: Masked Burglars Loot Eight Houses, Escape with ₹65 Lakh in Valuables
In a brazen early morning crime, burglars broke into eight locked houses in Hyderabad's Chengicherla area under Medipally police limits. The incident occurred in the early hours of Friday, with the thieves making off with gold, silver, and cash worth approximately ₹65 lakh.
CCTV Captures Three Masked Suspects
Police confirmed that the movement of three suspects was captured on CCTV cameras installed in the neighborhood. The footage shows the individuals wearing masks and jackets, clearly attempting to conceal their identities. Authorities have launched an intensive manhunt to track down and apprehend the accused persons.
The burglaries took place in two specific colonies: Kanakadurga Colony and Anushakti Nagar Colony. According to the Medipally police, the criminals struck around 2:30 AM. They scaled compound walls to gain access to the properties, targeting houses that were locked at the time.
Houses Targeted During Sankranti Absences
Uppal DCP K Suresh Kumar provided details about the theft. He stated that the burglars entered the houses by breaking open door latches. A significant factor in the crime was the timing: the residents of these eight houses were away at their native places, celebrating the Sankranti festival.
"As per our preliminary assessment," DCP Kumar said, "the stolen items include around 30 tolas of gold, approximately 8 kilograms of silver, and about ₹2 lakh in cash. The total estimated value of the loot is close to ₹65 lakh."
Police Investigation Underway
Police teams have swung into action following the incidents. A clues team was immediately called to the various crime scenes to collect forensic evidence, including fingerprints. Officers are also meticulously verifying the available CCTV footage from the area, hoping to identify the masked individuals.
"We have obtained some promising leads from our initial investigation," DCP Kumar added. "Our teams are actively working on these leads to identify and arrest the accused persons involved in this major theft."
Separate Cases Registered Under BNS
Sub-Inspector Yakanna explained the legal steps being taken. The police are registering separate cases for each of the eight burglaries. The cases are being filed under specific sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
The charges include:
- Section 331(4): This pertains to lurking house-trespass or house-breaking by night with the intention to commit an offence punishable with imprisonment.
- Section 305: This section deals with theft in a dwelling house.
The investigation remains ongoing as police pursue all available avenues to solve this high-value burglary case in Hyderabad.
