Husband Opens Fire Inside Police Station, Kills Wife in Hardoi
A shocking incident unfolded at a police station in Uttar Pradesh's Hardoi district on Monday morning. A 38-year-old man shot his wife dead in full view of police personnel.
Violence Erupts at Pali Police Station
The killing occurred around 10:45 AM at Pali police station, located approximately 50 kilometers from the district headquarters. According to police reports, the victim, identified as 30-year-old Soni, had just finished eating at the police station mess and stepped outside to speak with relatives.
At that moment, her husband Anoop arrived at the premises carrying a country-made pistol. Without any warning, he pulled out the weapon and fired at Soni from close range. The bullet struck her right shoulder, pierced through her chest, and exited from the other side.
Soni collapsed immediately in a pool of blood. Police personnel present nearby were momentarily stunned before rushing toward the scene. As Anoop attempted to flee, officers chased and overpowered him.
Victim Succumbs to Injuries
Despite being rushed to a nearby hospital, Soni succumbed to her injuries shortly afterward. Medical authorities sent her body for a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
The couple had been married for nearly 17 years and had a 12-year-old son together. Their relationship had reportedly been strained for several years.
Background of the Tragic Incident
According to police statements, Soni had allegedly eloped with her lover just five days earlier. Her husband Anoop filed a complaint at the police station the following day.
Police traced Soni and recovered her along with the alleged lover on Sunday. Both were brought to Pali police station, where Anoop met his wife briefly on Sunday evening before returning home.
Soni was scheduled to undergo a medical examination on Monday as part of the standard recovery procedure. Tragically, she never made it to that appointment.
Husband's Confession and Motive
In his confession to investigators, Anoop revealed disturbing details about his state of mind. He stated that police informed him on Sunday evening that his wife had been recovered.
"I met her at the police station and returned home, but I could not sleep the entire night," Anoop reportedly told investigators. "Around 4 AM, I decided to kill her."
Further investigation revealed that the couple had moved to Gurugram about four years ago after Anoop secured a job with a private company. During this period, Soni allegedly developed a relationship with Surjeet, a resident of Shahjahanpur who frequently visited their home.
Even after Anoop brought his wife back to their native village about a year ago and began working as a daily-wage laborer, her alleged relationship with the man reportedly continued.
Police Response and Suspensions
Superintendent of Police Ashok Meena took immediate action following the incident. He ordered the suspension of investigating officer Sub-Inspector Vikrant and woman constable Sanjana Rajput for negligence in duty.
The SP also directed that a departmental inquiry be initiated to examine the lapses that allowed such violence to occur within police premises.
Senior officials confirmed that further investigation is underway to determine how the accused managed to enter the police station with a firearm. This serious security breach has raised questions about safety protocols at police facilities.
The tragic incident has sent shockwaves through the Hardoi community and highlighted concerns about domestic violence and police station security in Uttar Pradesh.
