Hyderabad Housewife Arrested for Impersonating Doctor in Hospital Gold Theft
In a shocking incident from Hyderabad, a 30-year-old housewife has been taken into custody for allegedly posing as a medical professional and stealing valuable gold jewellery from a patient admitted to a corporate hospital. The theft occurred in the international block of the healthcare facility located in the upscale Jubilee Hills area on February 26.
Details of the Hospital Theft Incident
According to authorities from the Film Nagar police station, the complaint was officially registered on February 27 by the hospital's chief security officer. The report detailed that an unidentified woman had stolen gold ornaments from a patient's room. The security team provided crucial CCTV footage that captured the suspect entering the hospital premises in a white hatchback vehicle during the afternoon of February 26.
The footage revealed the woman wearing a white coat, moving through multiple hospital corridors before proceeding to basement-2 of the international block. She entered an in-patient room while the occupant, a 38-year-old housewife, was sleeping and her husband had briefly stepped out. Police officials stated that the suspect checked the patient's handbag and stole a gold mangalsutra along with a pair of earrings, with the total weight estimated at approximately five tola.
Investigation and Arrest of the Accused
Upon returning to the room, the patient's husband immediately noticed the missing jewellery and alerted hospital security personnel. The security team conducted a thorough review of surveillance footage and successfully identified the suspect on February 27. Based on the formal complaint from the chief security officer, Film Nagar police registered a case under Section 305-A of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which specifically addresses theft occurring within buildings.
Investigators utilized the vehicle registration number visible in the CCTV footage to trace and identify the accused as Sirisha, a housewife residing in Vikarabad. Police apprehended her from Vikarabad on Monday and recovered the entire stolen gold jewellery from her possession.
Motivation Behind the Crime
During interrogation, the accused confessed to the crime and revealed her personal circumstances. Sirisha explained that she has a one-year-old daughter and her family was experiencing significant financial difficulties because her husband was currently unemployed. She further admitted to having visited the hospital on previous occasions to see relatives who were admitted there. Drawing from these experiences, she formulated a plan to steal valuables from in-patient rooms while disguised as medical staff.
Film Nagar police inspector A Ramesh confirmed that the accused has been issued a legal notice requiring her to appear for questioning whenever necessary during the ongoing investigation. The recovered jewellery has been secured as evidence in the case.
This incident has raised serious concerns about security protocols within healthcare facilities and highlights the vulnerability of patients and their belongings during hospital stays. Authorities are continuing their investigation while reviewing security measures at medical institutions across the city.
