Home Guard Suspended in Kalahandi for Extortion

A home guard posted at Jaipatna police station in Kalahandi district was suspended on Sunday following allegations of extortion and misuse of his position. Police officials confirmed that Pabitra Mohan Nayak, the accused, allegedly exploited his official capacity to collect money from illegal liquor sellers, betting and gambling operators, and ganja traders operating in the area.

Sources revealed that Nayak also intimidated local residents and misused his influence to maintain an informal network of extortion. The matter came to light after multiple complaints were lodged against his conduct, prompting senior officials to take action. Acting on the complaints, Superintendent of Police Nagaraj Devarakonda ordered Nayak’s suspension after a preliminary inquiry substantiated the charges.

Details of the Allegations

According to reports, Nayak, a resident of Jaipatna, had been running a systematic extortion racket targeting illegal and semi-legal businesses. He would demand regular payments from sellers of illicit liquor, operators of betting and gambling dens, and traders of ganja, threatening them with legal action if they refused. The home guard also allegedly used his position to intimidate residents who opposed his activities.
