Constable Held for Year-Old Shooting

Abhimanyu Singh, a 32-year-old home guard constable, was taken into custody on Tuesday in connection with a chilling homicide. The victim, identified as Waseem (21), was a lab technician who was shot dead on January 17 of the previous year. The incident took place in the Ranipur police station area of Haridwar while Waseem was returning home from his workplace at a private laboratory.

Love Triangle Emerges as Motive

Police investigations reveal a tangled personal history behind the crime. According to officials, the accused constable, Abhimanyu Singh, a resident of Gurukul Narsan in Haridwar, was in a relationship with a female colleague from the home guards. This woman had previously been close to the victim, Waseem.

It is alleged that she confided in Singh about Waseem, who was reportedly pressuring her to continue their former relationship. This information allegedly prompted Singh to take drastic action. Police state that Singh used a country-made pistol to shoot Waseem, who was on his motorcycle at the time.

Painstaking Investigation Leads to Arrest

The case, which had remained unsolved for months, saw progress due to persistent police work. Senior Superintendent of Police (City) Abhay Singh explained that teams had been diligently searching for evidence since January. The crucial lead came recently when investigators discovered footage of a scooter at the crime scene. This visual evidence ultimately led them to identify and apprehend the accused constable.

Records show that Abhimanyu Singh joined the Uttarakhand home guard force in 2015. His female colleague, central to the case's motive, joined the unit later in 2023. Both were posted in Haridwar, where they came into contact and developed a relationship.

The arrest of a serving home guard personnel for such a serious crime has sent shockwaves through the local community. It highlights how personal disputes can escalate into violent tragedies.
