IndiGo Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Lucknow Over Hoax Bomb Threat

Police in Lucknow have taken swift action after a serious security scare on an IndiGo flight. The Sarojininagar police station registered an FIR on Monday against an unknown individual. This person allegedly wrote a hoax bomb threat on a tissue paper inside the aircraft's lavatory.

Complaint Filed by IndiGo Security Staff

IndiGo's security team submitted a written complaint to the authorities. This complaint came one day after the alarming incident. A Delhi to Bagdogra IndiGo flight, numbered 6E-6650, had to divert its course. The pilot made an emergency landing in Lucknow due to the threat.

IndiGo security officer Vipin Tripathi detailed the events in the FIR. He reported that the flight received a mid-air alert at 8.45 am. A crew member discovered a handwritten note inside the rear washroom. The note clearly read 'Bomb on the plane'. This discovery triggered immediate action from the flight crew.

Immediate Response and Landing

The pilot quickly informed Air Traffic Control about the situation. Following protocols, the pilot decided to divert the aircraft to Lucknow. The plane landed safely at 9.17 am at the Lucknow airport. Authorities immediately moved the aircraft to an isolation bay for security checks.

Multiple security agencies sprang into action upon landing. Quick Reaction Teams and bomb disposal units rushed to the scene. CISF personnel and airport officials also joined the effort. They cordoned off the area around the aircraft to ensure safety. A thorough and detailed inspection of the plane followed.

Panic and Dangerous Rumour

The FIR states that this incident created significant panic among passengers and crew. It amounted to spreading a dangerous rumour that could have led to chaos. Investigators noted an additional factor that heightened concerns. The aircraft was carrying sealed radioactive medical material at the time.

This material had proper No Objection Certificates. However, its presence prompted extra caution during the security sweep. After a comprehensive investigation, authorities declared the bomb threat a hoax. They found no explosives or dangerous items on board the aircraft.

Aircraft Cleared and Case Registered

Officials cleared the IndiGo aircraft for departure later in the day. The plane finally took off for its original destination, Bagdogra, at 4.30 pm. Police have registered a formal case under Section 353 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. This section deals with acts that endanger human life or personal safety of others.

The case targets an unidentified person responsible for the hoax threat. Police have initiated further investigation to identify and apprehend the culprit. They are examining all available evidence, including the tissue paper with the threatening message.
