The Hinjewadi police on Tuesday arrested a senior officer working with a private life insurance company on charges of outraging the modesty of a woman employee. The arrest came after the victim, frustrated by the persistent harassment, approached the police and lodged a formal complaint.
Details of the Case
Senior Police Inspector Balaji Pandhare of the Hinjewadi police stated that the complainant is employed by a private life insurance company based in Aundh. However, she was operating from a public sector bank in Hinjewadi due to a tie-up between her company and the bank.
According to Pandhare, the woman alleged in her complaint that her immediate supervisor frequently called her and discussed matters unrelated to work. The harassment escalated when the senior officer attempted to molest her near the company's headquarters. He also allegedly forced her to accompany him to Lonavla for lunch, where he tried to molest her again.
Investigation and Arrest
After receiving the complaint, the police verified video recordings and other evidence before arresting the accused. Pandhare confirmed that the evidence corroborated the victim's allegations, leading to the swift action.
The accused has been booked under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code for outraging the modesty of a woman. Further investigation is underway.
