HDMC Health Inspector Apprehended by Lokayukta Police in Dharwad Bribery Sting
In a significant crackdown on corruption, the Dharwad Lokayukta police successfully caught a health inspector from the Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation (HDMC) red-handed while she was accepting a bribe of Rs 3,500. The incident unfolded on Saturday, marking a decisive action against graft in the region.
Official Detained During Bribery Operation at HDMC Office
A specialized team led by Lokayukta Superintendent of Police Siddhalingappa conducted a meticulously planned operation that resulted in the detention of Heena Kausar Kurahatti. Kurahatti, who serves as a health inspector with HDMC Zone-1 in Dharwad, was apprehended directly at her office premises during the illicit transaction.
According to police statements, the case originated when a citizen named Maleppa Talawar applied for a license to establish a rotti shop in Dharwad. Kurahatti allegedly demanded a total bribe of Rs 4,500 from Talawar to facilitate the license approval process. The applicant initially paid Rs 1,000 as an advance and promised to settle the remaining Rs 3,500 at a later date.
Complaint Leads to Sting Operation and Recovery of Bribe Money
Instead of complying with the corrupt demand, Talawar took a principled stand by approaching the Lokayukta police and filing a formal complaint against the HDMC official. This proactive step enabled authorities to set up a covert operation to catch Kurahatti in the act.
Police officials detailed that while Kurahatti was accepting the balance payment of Rs 3,500, the Lokayukta team swiftly moved in and arrested her. The entire sum of bribe money was recovered on the spot, and Kurahatti has been detained for further investigation into the matter.
Legal Action Initiated Under Anti-Corruption Legislation
A formal case has been registered against Heena Kausar Kurahatti under the provisions of the anti-corruption act. The Lokayukta police emphasized their commitment to rooting out corruption and ensuring accountability among public officials.
