Hazaribag Police Crack Down on Drug Trafficking with Major Arrests
In a significant blow to drug trafficking activities, Barkagaon police conducted a successful special operation on Sunday. The operation led to the arrest of nine drug peddlers and the seizure of a substantial quantity of brown sugar.
Operation Details and Seizures
Police carried out the raid near Karbala on the Barkagaon–Bhagwan Bagi main road. Under the supervision of Barkagaon sub-divisional police officer Pawan Kumar, officers executed the operation as part of a broader district-wide drive against narcotics.
During the search, authorities recovered 67 sachets of brown sugar. The total weight of the seized substance amounted to approximately 13.6 grams. In addition to the drugs, police confiscated seven mobile phones from the suspects.
Background and Police Action
Barkagaon police station officer in-charge Krishna Kumar Gupta provided insights into the case. He stated that the accused individuals had been actively roaming across villages in the Barkagaon area. Their primary activity involved selling brown sugar to locals.
Gupta explained that repeated inputs from concerned residents prompted the action. Following these tips, the Superintendent of Police constituted a special team specifically tasked with addressing the drug menace. This team then planned and executed the Sunday operation.
Arrested Individuals and Ongoing Search
Police identified the nine arrested persons as residents of Barkagaon and nearby areas. The list includes Mohammad Tanveer Alam alias Tano, Birju Vishwakarma, Sachin Kumar, Mohammad Awesh, Arjun Kumar, Varun Kumar, Balram Kumar, Rajendra Kumar, and Mohammad Istiyaq alias Bablu.
However, the operation did not conclude without incident. Two suspects managed to flee from the spot during the raid. Police confirmed that an active search is currently underway to locate and apprehend these individuals.
