Major Drug Bust in Hazaribag: Three Arrested with 20.5 kg Opium
In a significant crackdown on narcotics trafficking, Hazaribag police have apprehended three individuals in possession of a substantial quantity of opium. The operation, which unfolded late on Thursday night, resulted in the seizure of 20.5 kilograms of opium with an estimated street value of Rs 1 crore.
Details of the Arrest and Seizure
The arrests were made from the limits of the Lohsinghna police station in Hazaribag district. According to Subdivisional Police Officer (Headquarters) Amit Kumar Anand, the suspects were intercepted during a routine inspection in the Kolghati area. The men were traveling on a motorcycle and carrying the contraband concealed inside a sack.
"During checking, the opium was found inside the sack," stated Anand, highlighting the meticulous police work that led to the discovery. The accused have been identified as:
- Deepak Kumar Dangi, aged 20
- Sudesh Yadav, aged 20
- Varun Kumar, aged 27
All three are residents of the neighboring Chatra district, indicating potential cross-district drug trafficking activities.
Legal Proceedings and Police Action
Following the arrest, the seized opium was thoroughly documented and valued. "The seized item is worth Rs 1 crore," confirmed Anand, underscoring the economic impact of such illicit trade. In a swift legal move, all the accused were placed in judicial custody on Friday, ensuring they face due process under the law.
