A 25-year-old fitness enthusiast and bodybuilder from Haryana has died following a violent attack, leaving his family shattered and demanding justice. The incident has sent shockwaves through the Rohtak district.
A Mother's Grief and Unwavering Demand for Justice
Sitting in her modest home in Humayunpur village, Rohtak district, Saroj Dhankhar, the mother of the deceased Rohit Dhankhar, can only repeat one poignant plea. She is seeking justice for her only son, who was her sole emotional and financial support. Her voice choked with emotion, Saroj recalls her son as her pillar in old age, now lost to a senseless act of violence.
"He was my only support. I want justice for my son. The way they beat him, they must be punished strictly. My son is gone, I only want justice now," the grieving mother stated, breaking down repeatedly. She revealed that she stitched clothes for years to raise him and help him stand on his own feet. With her husband no more, her daughter has lost a brother, and she has lost her only son.
Chronology of a Tragic Night
According to the family's account, the tragic sequence of events began on November 28. Rohit, a resident of Humayunpur, had gone to Bhiwani with his friend Jatin from Baundkalan village to attend a wedding of Jatin's relative.
As the wedding procession ('baraat') arrived from Tigadana village, a minor issue sparked a heated argument between Rohit and a group of youths. While the matter seemed to cool down initially, the underlying tension persisted.
The situation turned fatal later that night. When Rohit and Jatin were returning, the same group allegedly intercepted and attacked Rohit. The family claims that between 20 to 22 youths were involved in the brutal assault. Rohit was beaten so severely that he fell unconscious on the spot.
Futile Fight for Life and Police Action
The critically injured young man was first shifted to a private hospital in Rohtak and later referred to the trauma centre at the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (PGIMS). Despite the efforts of doctors, Rohit succumbed to his injuries during treatment.
Saroj remembers her last conversation with her son around 9 pm that fateful night, where he told her not to cook as he would eat at the wedding. The family received the first concrete news of the assault early the next morning, leading their son-in-law to rush to Bhiwani around 3 am.
Expressing deep anguish over the police response, Saroj alleged that the authorities have not provided clear assurances or information on the action taken. "No one from the police has told us properly what action has been taken. I have not received any concrete assurance. I only want that the killers of my son should not be spared," she said. The family remains in the dark about any potential arrests, despite several individuals being involved.
In a show of solidarity, members of the Dhankhar khap have met the bereaved family and assured them of full support in their fight for justice. The community has pledged to stand with them.
The death of Rohit Dhankhar, a gym-trained bodybuilder known locally for his fitness, has not only robbed a family of its sole earning member but has also highlighted concerns over law and order, leaving a mother's cry for justice echoing in the heart of Haryana.
