Haseen Mastan Mirza, the daughter of the deceased underworld figure Haji Mastan, has made a direct and public appeal to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah. She is seeking justice in a harrowing case where she alleges she was a victim of forced child marriage, sexual abuse, and property theft.
A Plea for Intervention to the Top Leadership
In a recent interaction with ANI, Haseen Mastan Mirza outlined her prolonged struggle for justice. She stated that she has been denied justice for years and is now turning to the country's highest leadership. "I have requested Amit Shah, Modi ji," she said, connecting her personal ordeal to broader societal issues. She argued for stricter laws to deter crimes like the ones she claims to have endured.
Her public plea follows an emotional video she shared on Instagram last week, where she detailed her traumatic experiences and reiterated her appeal to PM Modi and Amit Shah for intervention.
Allegations of a Forced Childhood Marriage and Abuse
Haseen's allegations are grave and specific. She claims she was forcibly married in 1996 to her maternal uncle's son when she was still a minor. She alleges her husband, who she says had been married eight times before her, subjected her to rape, physical abuse, and an attempt on her life.
"I want the person who has done so much crime, has raped a child, left her to die..." she expressed with anguish. She revealed the trauma led her to attempt suicide three times. Furthermore, she accused her husband of misusing her identity to illegally take control of her property.
Haseen explained that both she and her mother were under immense pressure to accept this marriage. She was kept isolated from her family and only learned about her father Haji Mastan's death two years after it occurred on June 25, 1994.
Praise for Reforms and a Call for Stricter Laws
Interestingly, in her video appeal, Haseen Mastan Mirza praised Prime Minister Modi's move to ban the practice of triple talaq. She stated that the passage of that bill reflected the support of women who were relieved from an unfair practice.
However, she urged the government to introduce even stricter laws to ensure swift justice in cases like hers. She alleged that religious laws within Islam were being misused and emphasized that a robust legal framework is essential to protect victims.
Separately, she also addressed the media portrayal of her late father, Haji Mastan. While acknowledging he amassed wealth through various means, she stressed that her current legal battles are unrelated to his legacy and began only after his death. She expressed hurt over negative headlines about him but affirmed her respect for his principles.
Haji Mastan Mirza, born in Tamil Nadu, was a notorious figure in the Mumbai underworld, involved in smuggling and real estate, and had reported connections with other dons like Dawood Ibrahim.
