Gwalior Gang-Rape: Three Men Arrested for Abducting and Assaulting Woman on College Campus

In a shocking incident from Gwalior district, a 20-year-old woman was allegedly abducted and gang-raped by three men on a college campus in the Dabra area. While the assault occurred on February 19, it came to light only recently after the survivor's health deteriorated, prompting her to report the crime to authorities.

Timeline of the Incident and Police Response

The survivor had been staying at her aunt's house since February 10. On the evening of February 19, around 8 PM, she stepped out to a local stall to eat. According to police sources, two men arriving on an e-rickshaw intercepted her. Before she could raise an alarm, the men gagged her and forcibly pulled her into the vehicle. On their way to a secluded spot, they picked up a third accomplice.

The trio then drove the woman to a college campus situated at the Aru Tiraha intersection. Under the cover of darkness, the three men allegedly took turns raping her. The following morning, February 20, the accused dropped the victim near her aunt's shop. Before fleeing, they reportedly issued death threats, warning her of dire consequences if she dared to approach the authorities.

Survivor's Ordeal and Legal Action

Traumatized and fearing for her life, the survivor remained silent for several days. However, as her physical condition began to deteriorate significantly due to the assault, she narrated the ordeal to her aunt. The family rushed her to the Dabra Rural Police Station on Friday evening. Police registered an FIR under relevant sections of the IPC/BNS pertaining to kidnapping and gang rape.

In a swift response, the Dabra police swung into action late Friday night, arresting all three accused named in the complaint. The arrested individuals have been identified as:

  • Bhupendra Batham (23): Employed as a watchman.
  • Sonu Batham (25): An e-rickshaw driver.
  • Abhishek Parihar (28): An e-rickshaw driver.

The accused are currently being interrogated, and police are scanning their past criminal records to determine if they have been involved in similar incidents in the region. The victim has been sent for a medical examination to gather forensic evidence.

Broader Implications and Community Concerns

This case has raised serious concerns about women's safety in public spaces, particularly on educational campuses. The delayed reporting due to threats highlights the challenges survivors face in seeking justice. Authorities are emphasizing the importance of prompt action and support systems for victims of such heinous crimes.

As the investigation continues, local communities are calling for increased vigilance and stricter enforcement of safety measures to prevent such atrocities in the future. The police have assured the public that they are committed to ensuring a thorough probe and bringing the perpetrators to justice.
