Gurgaon Man Succumbs to Injuries After MPV Collision in Traffic Jam
A tragic accident on the busy Gurgaon-Faridabad Road has claimed the life of a 50-year-old man, highlighting the dangers of reckless driving in congested traffic conditions. The incident occurred on Tuesday, following a collision involving a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) and a motorcycle that was stuck in a traffic jam.
Details of the Fatal Collision
Shakir, a resident of Karmas Khedi village in Uttar Pradesh's Bijnor district, was riding pillion on a Honda S motorcycle driven by his brother, Mohammad Rashid (37). The brothers were returning from work in DLF Phase III and heading towards Shakir's rented accommodation in Dabua Colony, Faridabad. As they approached a CNG pump in Gwal Pahari, traffic slowed down significantly due to congestion.
Rashid stopped his motorcycle behind a Grand Vitara car amid the jam. At approximately 4:45 PM, a white Toyota Innova allegedly approached at high speed and rammed into their bike from behind. The impact was severe, wedging the motorcycle between the Grand Vitara in front and the Innova, causing both brothers to fall and sustain injuries.
Immediate Aftermath and Police Action
Following the collision, a crowd gathered at the scene. Rashid, despite his injuries, managed to note down the registration number of the Innova. With assistance from a passing vehicle, he transported his brother to BK Civil Hospital in Faridabad for urgent medical attention. Shakir suffered serious injuries, including multiple bone fractures, and was admitted to the hospital. Tragically, he succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday.
Based on a complaint filed by Rashid and supported by medical documents, the DLF Phase 1 police station registered an FIR against the Innova driver. The charges include sections 281 for rash driving and 106 for causing death by negligence under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Police have seized the car and plan to issue a notice to its owner as part of the ongoing investigation.
Personal and Family Impact
In an emotional statement to the media, Rashid revealed that the brothers were on their way to Faridabad to break their fast during Ramzan when the accident occurred. He described the devastating consequences, stating that he is currently undergoing treatment for a fractured leg in his native village. Shakir, who worked as a painter, leaves behind a wife and three children, adding to the profound personal loss.
Police officials confirmed that they conducted a site inspection, photographed the damaged vehicles, and received confirmation of Shakir's death from the hospital on Tuesday. The investigation is ongoing, with authorities emphasizing the need for stricter enforcement of traffic rules to prevent such incidents in the future.
Broader Implications for Road Safety
This incident underscores the critical issue of road safety in urban areas like Gurgaon, where heavy traffic and speeding vehicles pose significant risks. It serves as a stark reminder for drivers to exercise caution, especially in congested zones, to avoid fatal accidents. The community and authorities are urged to prioritize measures that enhance traffic management and reduce negligence on the roads.
