The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) in Gurgaon has initiated a new campaign named 'Samadhan Sangharsh Nivarak Rashtriya Abhiyan' to promote faster and amicable resolution of disputes. The initiative focuses on resolving non-heinous cases through mutual consent, dialogue, and mediation, offering an alternative to prolonged judicial proceedings.
Objective and Scope of the Campaign
Chief Judicial Magistrate-cum-Secretary of DLSA, Rakesh Kadiyan, stated that the campaign aims to reduce the burden of pending cases in courts by providing a simpler and time-bound resolution process. According to official data, a total of 3,08,621 cases are currently pending in Gurgaon's district and sessions courts. This includes 2,63,974 criminal cases and 44,647 civil cases. Additionally, 4,332 matters are at the pre-litigation stage, and approximately 10,000 to 12,000 fresh cases are filed every month.
Implementation and Timeline
The campaign commenced on April 21 and will continue until August 23, 2026, culminating in Special Lok Adalats. Currently, authorities are identifying eligible cases and encouraging parties to participate in pre-Lok Adalat conciliation proceedings. The drive involves coordination among judicial officers, legal services institutions, advocates, litigants, and other stakeholders. Trained mediators and conciliators are being deployed, and proceedings will be conducted under court supervision, with options for virtual and hybrid hearings.
Appeal to Litigants
Kadiyan appealed to litigants to actively participate in the initiative, emphasizing that it would help resolve disputes efficiently and in a time-bound manner while strengthening trust in the justice system. He highlighted that the campaign builds on the success of Lok Adalats in 2025, which disposed of around 3.1 lakh cases in Gurgaon, including accident compensation claims, traffic challans, cheque bounce matters, domestic disputes, and other non-heinous cases.
Infrastructure and Resources
Gurgaon district courts operate with 48 judges, including 16 sessions judges, across three complexes. The main Gurgaon complex houses 42 courts, while the Pataudi and Sohna complexes have three courts each. The campaign leverages this infrastructure to facilitate mediation and conciliation efforts.
