Senior Hospital Executive Killed in Gurgaon Hit-and-Run
A 58-year-old man lost his life in a tragic hit-and-run accident on National Highway 8 near the Sarhol border on Saturday. The victim, Shivnath Mishra, a resident of Dwarka Sector 19 in Delhi, was the head of the purchase department at World Laparoscopy Hospital. The incident occurred between 10:30 am and 11:00 am when a taxi allegedly hit his scooter from behind and fled the scene.
Police stated that Mishra was commuting from Delhi to Gurgaon for work when the collision occurred. The impact caused severe head injuries, and he collapsed on the road. "Traffic police personnel unlocked his mobile phone using fingerprint access and informed his family," an officer said. He was rushed by PCR staff to a private hospital in DLF Phase 3 but succumbed to his injuries around 10:30 pm the same day.
Controversy Erupts Over Hospital's Medical Bill
The tragedy took a contentious turn as Mishra's family raised serious allegations of exorbitant overbilling by the private hospital where he was treated. His son, Bhuneshwar Mishra, told reporters that the family was initially given an estimate of around Rs 2 lakh for critical care.
However, after a neurologist advised surgery for internal brain bleeding, the estimate was revised to approximately Rs 5 lakh. Following what doctors called a successful surgery, Shivnath Mishra's blood pressure dropped, and he was declared dead. Astonishingly, for a treatment duration of less than 10 hours, the hospital presented a final bill of about Rs 5.98 lakh.
Bhuneshwar alleged the bill included charges for multiple days of observation and medication, which did not align with the short duration of treatment. "Following arguments and intervention by staff members from the victim's workplace, the bill was reportedly reduced to about Rs 2.5 lakh," sources revealed. The family has questioned the necessity of the procedures, suggesting the hospital may have continued aggressive treatment despite the potentially fatal nature of the injuries.
Police Investigation and Other Gurgaon Incidents
The DLF Phase 3 police station has registered a case under sections 281 (rash driving) and 106 (causing death by negligence) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Authorities are actively working to trace the accused driver. "CCTV footage is being examined to trace him," a police officer confirmed.
In a separate but similarly tragic incident, a man working in the nursing department of Fortis Hospital was killed in a suspected hit-and-run near Rajiv Chowk during the night of December 21-22. The victim, Rahul Sharma, son of Kailash Chandra from Dholpur, Rajasthan, was a Gurgaon resident. The vehicle involved remains unidentified, and no formal complaint has been filed yet.
Additionally, police in Sohna have launched an investigation after the body of an unidentified man, believed to be around 31 years old, was found near the Shivam chilled point area on the Sohna highway. Preliminary investigation points to a fatal road accident. An FIR under BNS sections 106 and 281 has been registered at the Sohna City police station.
These back-to-back incidents highlight growing concerns over road safety and post-accident medical accountability in the Gurgaon region. The investigation into Shivnath Mishra's death continues as his family seeks answers both about the reckless driver and the hospital's billing practices.
