Gurgaon Delivery Executive Succumbs to Injuries After Hit-and-Run Incident

A tragic hit-and-run accident in Gurgaon has claimed the life of a 26-year-old delivery executive, highlighting the dangers faced by gig economy workers on Indian roads. The victim, identified as Safar Kumar, was employed with logistics firm Porter and was using a company-provided electric scooter for his daily delivery operations.

Details of the Fatal Accident

According to a police complaint filed by his sister Sandesha Kumari, Safar Kumar left his home in Dharam Colony, Palam Extension around 8am on January 17 for work. The fateful incident occurred around 5:30pm the same day while he was making deliveries in the Udyog Vihar Phase IV area.

The collision happened near plots 247 and 248 when an unidentified speeding vehicle struck Safar's EV scooter. A police officer involved in the investigation stated, "The impact threw him off the scooter, leaving him critically injured. The driver fled the spot immediately after the collision, making this a clear case of hit-and-run."

Medical Treatment and Tragic Outcome

After the accident, Safar's friends Aman and Nitesh took him home and informed his family about the incident. The victim showed visible serious injuries including:

  • Bleeding from the nose
  • Injury marks near his right eye
  • Multiple wounds on his left leg

The family initially took him to Shiva Hospital near Sheetla Mandir, but he was quickly referred to a higher medical facility with neurosurgical support. Safar Kumar was subsequently admitted to Signature Hospital in Sector 37D, where he remained under intensive medical care for three days before tragically succumbing to his injuries on January 20.

Police Investigation and Legal Action

Police authorities learned about the incident during a routine night patrol on January 20 and immediately began collecting medico-legal documents and death intimation records. After the grieving family approached the Udyog Vihar police station, authorities registered a First Information Report (FIR) on January 21.

The FIR has been registered under sections 281 (rash driving) and 106 (causing death by negligence) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). An autopsy was conducted at the General Hospital mortuary in Gurgaon, after which the body was handed over to the family for last rites.

Ongoing Investigation Efforts

Police investigators are currently examining CCTV footage from the Udyog Vihar Phase IV area to identify both the vehicle and driver involved in this fatal hit-and-run incident. The case highlights growing concerns about road safety for delivery personnel who spend extensive hours navigating busy urban streets.

Safar Kumar, who lived with his mother and sister, represents the vulnerable workforce in India's rapidly expanding delivery and logistics sector. His tragic death underscores the urgent need for enhanced safety measures and stricter enforcement of traffic regulations to protect those who keep our cities moving.
