Gurdaspur Police Dismantles Two Major Drug Networks in Coordinated Operations

In a significant crackdown on narcotics trafficking, the Gurdaspur police on Saturday announced the successful busting of two organized drug networks. The operation led to the arrest of two key operatives and the recovery of a substantial 11 kilograms of heroin along with Rs 5.75 lakh in drug money.

Arrests and Seizures Across Multiple Locations

The arrested individuals have been identified as Mohammad Wasim, a resident of Qasimpur in Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh, and Harshdeep Singh alias Harsh, a resident of Amritsar. In addition to the narcotics and cash, police teams also impounded the vehicles used by the accused in their illicit activities.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Aditya provided detailed insights into the operations. According to preliminary investigations, the arrested accused were indirectly in contact with Pakistan-based smugglers through their handlers operating within India. The SSP emphasized that further investigation is actively underway to uncover the full extent of these networks.

Operational Breakdown of the Drug Busts

SSP Aditya outlined the specifics of the two separate operations that led to the arrests:

  • In the first operation, Harshdeep Singh alias Harsh was apprehended near village Chitti in Gurdaspur. From his possession, police recovered 8 kg of heroin and Rs 3.5 lakhs in drug money.
  • In the second operation, Mohammad Wasim was arrested at a naka near Paniyar Sugar Mill in Dina Nagar. A search of his vehicle yielded 6 packets of heroin weighing 3 kg and Rs 2.25 lakh in drug money.

Legal Actions and Ongoing Investigations

Following the arrests, FIRs have been registered under Sections 21C and 27A of the NDPS Act. The cases have been filed at police station Dina Nagar and police station Dorangla, respectively. The police are now focusing on tracing the broader network and identifying additional individuals involved in these smuggling operations.

This major bust highlights the ongoing efforts by law enforcement agencies to combat drug trafficking in the region, particularly targeting cross-border smuggling activities that pose a significant threat to public safety and security.
