A dramatic rescue unfolded in a Pilibhit village when a quick-thinking grandfather saved his young grandson from an alleged kidnapper, leading to the suspect's arrest. The incident highlights both community vigilance and a family's desperate search.
Grandfather's Swift Action Saves the Day
The event took place on Sunday in the rural settings of Pilibhit district. Harman Singh, a 63-year-old resident of Bautha village, had gone to the nearby Ghungchai village for a specific task: to hire daily wage labourers. For a brief period, he left his six-year-old grandson at a contractor's doorstep, presumably thinking the child would be safe.
However, upon his return, Singh was met with every parent's and grandparent's nightmare. The boy was missing. Panic set in immediately. He began frantically asking around, and local villagers provided a crucial lead. They reported seeing the young boy with an unidentified man, a stranger in the area.
Community Joins the Search, Kidnapper Apprehended
Without wasting a moment, Harman Singh, driven by fear and determination, rallied other villagers. Together, they fanned out across the area, conducting an urgent search for the child and the unknown man. Their collective effort soon bore fruit.
The search party spotted a man walking away with the child. He was identified as Chhote Tiwari, a 50-year-old from Bagar village. Acting swiftly, Singh and the other villagers intercepted Tiwari, secured the child, and managed to apprehend the suspect. The alleged kidnapper was then handed over to the local police authorities.
Police Investigation and Legal Action
The Pilibhit police registered a formal case following the incident. They booked Chhote Tiwari under the relevant legal provision, BNS section 137(2), which deals with kidnapping. During initial questioning, police officials revealed a surprising detail.
According to the police, Tiwari was found to be in an inebriated state at the time of the incident. When questioned about his motives, he reportedly claimed that he took the boy out of fondness, not with malicious intent. However, the police are proceeding with their investigation based on the facts of the unlawful taking of the child.
The entire episode ended with the young boy safely back in his family's care, thanks to his grandfather's alertness and the supportive action of the village community. The case serves as a reminder of the importance of vigilance, especially concerning the safety of children in both urban and rural settings.
