Goa Police: 10 Daily Crimes, 88% Detection Rate in 2025

Goa Police Handles 10 Crime Cases Daily in 2025, Detection Rate Holds at 88%

Goa police registered an average of 10 crime cases every day throughout 2025. This daily tally includes serious offenses like murder, rape, dacoity, robbery, narcotics cases, and theft. In total, the state saw 3,243 criminal cases filed during the year.

Police managed to detect 2,876 of these cases. This achievement translates to an impressive 88% detection rate for the year.

Five-Year Trend Shows Consistent Police Performance

Over the last five years, the detection rate for Goa police has remained remarkably steady. It has consistently fluctuated between 85% and 88%. Similarly, the annual registration of criminal cases has shown little variation, staying just above 3,100 cases each year.

Since 2021, authorities have reported 153 murders in the state. Police successfully detected 141 of these homicide cases. During the same period, 455 rape cases were officially recorded. Investigators managed to solve 441 of these sexual assault incidents.

Dacoity Cases Present a Mixed Picture

A total of 13 dacoity cases were registered in Goa since 2021. Police claim they have detected all these violent robberies. Three of these dacoities occurred just last year, with incidents reported in Mapusa, Dona Paula, and Baina.

However, the main accused in the Dona Paula and Mapusa cases remain untraced by authorities. Only the Baina case has seen the primary suspect apprehended. In the other two incidents, police arrested the facilitators but could not capture the key perpetrators.

Investigators suspect the main accused in these unsolved dacoities might be Bangladeshi nationals. These individuals are still at large despite police efforts.

Similar Methods Used in Multiple Dacoities

All these recent dacoity cases followed a similar modus operandi. In Baina, approximately seven masked men forced their way into a house. They assaulted the occupants before escaping with silver items and cash.

This was not an isolated incident. In April, an elderly couple from the prominent Dempo family experienced a terrifying ordeal. Three armed robbers carrying daggers broke into their Dona Paula residence.

The intruders tied the 77-year-old man and his 71-year-old wife to their bed. The burglary took place between midnight and 4 AM. Before entering the bungalow, the trio assaulted the security guard on duty.

Once inside, they first tied the wife, Padmini, to the bed. Then they restrained her husband, Jaiprakash. Jaiprakash later recalled waking up to see three strangers standing before him. Only the elderly couple was home during this invasion.

Nearly six months after this dacoity in Dona Paula, Goa police finally arrested one person. This individual was allegedly involved in identifying the target house for the robbery.

Mapusa Incident Reveals Chilling Details

Another disturbing dacoity occurred in Mapusa. Around six armed individuals, disguised in burqas, stole approximately 35 lakh rupees in cash and valuables. They held the Ghanekar family hostage during the crime.

The perpetrators followed a meticulously planned escape route after their robbery. This violent incident took place at the Ghanekar residence in the densely populated Ganeshpuri area of Mapusa. The crime unfolded between 3 AM and 5 AM.

The gang arrived armed with a large knife and iron rods. Shockingly, they helped themselves to food available in the house. They even compelled the doctor's elderly mother to prepare tea for them.

The family members—including the doctor, his wife, his mother, and another relative—were all tied up using bedsheets and a sari. The robbers then gagged them with pillow covers to prevent any cries for help.
