Ghaziabad Gangster Apprehended in Dramatic Gunfight Operation
In a significant breakthrough, Ghaziabad police successfully arrested a notorious gangster wanted in a high-profile kidnapping and extortion case following a dramatic gunfight on Tuesday night. The operation, which involved multiple specialized police units, resulted in the apprehension of the accused in an injured condition.
Details of the Accused and Criminal Background
The arrested individual has been identified as Abbas, also known as Babu, a 29-year-old resident of Bulandshahr. Police investigations reveal that Abbas was an active member of the infamous Anil Dujana gang, known for its involvement in organized crime across the region.
Recovered Evidence: During the arrest, law enforcement officials recovered a pistol along with multiple cartridges and a stolen motorcycle from Abbas's possession. These items have been seized as crucial evidence in the ongoing investigation.
Serious Criminal Charges and Previous Record
According to ACP (Crime) Amit Saxena, Abbas was implicated in a particularly severe case filed with Masuri police in July of last year. The case involved the kidnapping and extortion of a local transporter, who was threatened and abducted for ransom.
Legal Framework: An FIR had been registered against Abbas under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including:
- Section 308(2) for extortion
- Section 140(2) for kidnapping or abducting with intent to murder or for ransom
- Section 352 for intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace
- Section 351(4) for criminal intimidation
ACP Saxena further disclosed that Abbas had more than half a dozen criminal cases registered against him previously, indicating a long-standing pattern of criminal behavior.
Operation Details and Gunfight Sequence
The arrest operation was initiated after police received specific intelligence that Abbas would be passing through the Masuri area. Acting on this tip-off, a joint operation was launched involving personnel from the elite SWAT team, the Crime Branch, and officers from the Masuri police station.
The coordinated effort led police to conduct checks near the blue bridge on the Gang Canal track, which connects the Nahal intersection to Muradnagar. During these checks, a confrontation escalated into a gunfight, during which Abbas sustained injuries. He was subsequently transported to a government hospital for medical treatment.
Historical Context and Gang Leadership
This arrest follows significant developments in the same case from September of last year, when the primary accused and gang leader, Balram Thakur, was killed during an encounter with the SWAT team and Crime Branch. The elimination of Thakur and now the arrest of Abbas represent major blows to the criminal operations of the Anil Dujana gang.
Police authorities have confirmed that further investigation is actively underway to uncover additional details about the gang's activities and potential accomplices. The successful operation demonstrates the continued vigilance and coordinated efforts of Ghaziabad law enforcement in combating organized crime.
