Police Encounter Leaves Gangster Injured in Amritsar
A notorious gangster was shot and injured during a dramatic police encounter in Amritsar on Tuesday, according to police commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar. The accused, identified as Knish, was part of a criminal gang involved in a recent robbery at a readymade garment shop in the Sultanwind area.
The Sultanwind Robbery Case
The incident traces back to a robbery where Knish, along with accomplices Varun and Karan, allegedly looted Rs 2.5 lakh in cash and a gold bracelet from a garment shop. Police commissioner Bhullar revealed that one person, Baljit Singh, had already been arrested in connection with this case, while the remaining suspects had been formally nominated.
According to the police investigation, the gang had been active in the Sultanwind area, and a thorough search operation was launched to apprehend the remaining culprits. The police had registered an FIR under Sections 309(4) of the BNS and Section 25 of the Arms Act against Knish at the Division B police station.
The Dramatic Encounter Unfolds
The situation escalated on Tuesday when police personnel noticed suspicious activity near the Vera bypass area. Upon spotting the individual, the police team signaled him to stop. However, instead of complying, the person attempted to flee the scene.
In a bold move, the suspect fired three shots at the police team, putting the officers' lives in immediate danger. In response, SHO Baljinder Singh of Division B fired a warning shot into the air before engaging in the encounter that followed.
During the exchange of fire, Knish sustained a gunshot wound to his leg. The police immediately rushed him to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. Police commissioner Bhullar confirmed that the injured gangster is currently under medical supervision and receiving appropriate care.

The successful operation represents a significant breakthrough in the Sultanwind robbery case. The police have intensified their efforts to capture the remaining suspects, Varun and Karan, who are still at large.
