Police Encounter Leaves Gangster's Associate Injured in Kharar
A close associate of notorious gangster Lucky Patial was seriously injured during an early morning police encounter in Mohali district on Monday. Ranbir Singh Rana sustained a bullet wound in his leg during the exchange of fire with officers from the Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) on Bhukhdi Road in Kharar.
Criminal Background and Previous Offenses
According to the Mohali police authorities, Rana has been linked to multiple serious criminal incidents in recent weeks. He was involved in the shooting outside the residence of the owner of Rajenta Hotel in Sector 38, Chandigarh. The accused also participated in the firing incident targeting popular Punjabi singer Bunty Bains.
Police investigations revealed that two of Rana's accomplices have already been taken into custody in connection with these violent attacks. However, Rana had managed to evade capture until Monday morning's dramatic confrontation with law enforcement.
The Morning Encounter Operation
The operation unfolded when Harmandeep Singh Hans, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of SAS Nagar (Mohali), received crucial intelligence about Rana's movements around 8:20 AM. The police team tracked the accused as he was riding his motorcycle toward his native village of Gunomajra.
SSP Hans, who personally visited the encounter site, provided details to reporters: "Our team attempted to apprehend him peacefully and asked him to surrender, but instead of complying, he opened fire on the police personnel. The officers responded with controlled retaliatory action, resulting in him being shot in the leg."
Aftermath and Legal Proceedings
Following the shooting, Rana was immediately transported to Civil Hospital in Kharar for initial treatment. Due to the severity of his injury, medical authorities referred him to a more advanced healthcare facility in Mohali for specialized care.
Law enforcement officials recovered significant evidence from the scene, including a pistol and the motorcycle Rana was riding. A specialized forensic team conducted a thorough examination of the encounter location in the abandoned KTM residential area, collecting crucial samples for further analysis.
The police have registered a formal case against Rana under Section 109 (attempt to murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) along with relevant sections of the Arms Act at the Kharar police station. The investigation continues as authorities work to uncover additional details about Rana's criminal network and activities.
