Tragic Highway Accident in Tuticorin Claims Four Family Members
A horrific road accident near Ettayapuram in Tuticorin district has resulted in the tragic deaths of four family members and left three others with serious injuries. The incident occurred on Monday when their car violently collided with a stationary truck parked on the roadside.
Details of the Fatal Collision
According to police sources, the group of seven individuals had embarked on a journey from Chennai on Saturday to attend a function in Trichy the following day. After the event, they traveled to Tiruchendur to offer prayers at the renowned Subramanya Swamy temple. The fatal accident took place on the Tuticorin-Madurai National Highway as they were returning to Chennai.
As the car approached the M Kottur junction near Ettayapuram, it reportedly veered off its lane and crashed into the rear of a truck that was parked on the roadside. The impact was so severe that the front portion of the car was completely mangled, trapping all occupants inside the wreckage.
Victims and Rescue Efforts
The deceased have been identified as Bhaskaran (41), Vanitha (40), Vasanthi (39), and Palani (51), who was driving the vehicle at the time of the accident. Three other passengers—Premkumar (41), Sandhiya (12), and Pradeep Kumar (10)—suffered serious injuries in the collision and are currently undergoing treatment at the Tuticorin Government Medical College Hospital.
Local residents who witnessed the accident immediately alerted the authorities. Police personnel rushed to the scene and worked to retrieve the bodies from the severely damaged vehicle. The deceased were subsequently shifted to the Ettayapuram government hospital for autopsy procedures.
