Forest Dept Blames MMC for NH-33 Corridor Delay, Not Union Minister
Forest Dept Blames MMC for NH-33 Corridor Delay

Jamshedpur: The Jamshedpur forest division has clarified that the delay in the NH-33 elevated corridor project is due to incomplete procedural formalities by the Mango Municipal Corporation (MMC), contradicting Union minister Satish Chandra Dubey's attribution of the delay to pending forest land transfer.

Saba Alam, divisional forest officer (DFO), stated, “The department is ready to transfer the required forest land, particularly for widening work, but MMC has failed to submit an application on the Parivesh portal. We reminded them twice but no action has been taken.”

The clarification emerged during a discussion on Thursday with Jamshedpur (West) MLA Saryu Roy, who had raised the matter following Dubey’s remarks on Wednesday that expediting forest clearance would accelerate the project. Alam informed Roy that forest clearance and approval from the wildlife board had already been secured.

Roy suggested that the Union minister may not have been fully briefed on the clearances. “Since all permissions are in place, agencies like NHAI and state authorities should now initiate pending work without delay,” he said, urging MMC to immediately upload its proposal on the portal.

Another project—the construction of a flyover ramp from Mango Chowk—has stalled at the terminal point due to pending formalities, exacerbating congestion and safety concerns.
