A shocking sequence of events unfolded in Navi Mumbai's Sanpada area in the early hours of Sunday, leaving local residents stunned and the police scrambling for answers. A yet-to-be-identified foreign national attempted to end his life not once, but twice within a short span, resulting in critical injuries.
A Grim Night in Sanpada
The incident began past midnight on Sunday. According to Senior Inspector Devidas Kathale of Sanpada police station, the man first entered the Sai Raj society. Around 1:30 am, he jumped from the second floor of this building. The fall caused severe injuries to his shoulder and led to internal bleeding.
Despite the grievous wounds, in a bewildering turn of events, the injured man managed to walk to a nearby building named Dhanashree Apartment. He used the elevator to reach the second floor and jumped off once again. It was the alarmed residents of Dhanashree Apartment who immediately informed the police about the bleeding foreign national on their premises.
Race to Hospitals and Identity Mystery
A police team swiftly reached the spot. The man was conscious at the time and was first rushed to the NMMC hospital in Vashi for urgent medical attention. Given the severity of his injuries, which included significant internal bleeding, he was later referred to the better-equipped Sion hospital for advanced care. Inspector Kathale confirmed that his condition remains critical, and he is currently under treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Sion hospital.
The biggest challenge for the authorities is establishing the man's identity. No passport, wallet, or identifying documents were found on him. The only clue in their possession is a single key, marked with a hotel room number - 107. However, the key does not bear the name of the hotel, complicating the investigation.
Ongoing Police Investigation
The Sanpada police have launched a multi-pronged investigation to piece together the events leading to the tragedy. Officers are meticulously scanning CCTV footage from the locality to trace the man's movements and determine his point of origin in the Sanpada area.
Simultaneously, a thorough check is being conducted with all hotels, lodges, and guest houses in Sanpada and its neighbouring regions. The aim is to find the establishment corresponding to room number 107, which could provide crucial details about the foreign national. The police are working against time to uncover his identity and notify his family or embassy.
This distressing incident has raised serious questions and left a community in shock, as the police continue their search for answers behind the man's desperate actions.
