A thick blanket of fog on the Etawah-Bareilly national highway led to a serious chain-reaction collision involving three vehicles on Wednesday morning. The incident occurred in the Farrukhabad district, resulting in damage to all vehicles and injuries to one person.
Sequence of the Collision
According to preliminary information from the police, the accident unfolded when a dumper, likely struggling with low visibility, rammed into the rear of an e-rickshaw. The impact of the crash was severe, propelling the e-rickshaw forward and causing it to smash into a car that was travelling ahead of it. This multi-vehicle pileup left all three modes of transport badly damaged on the spot.
Injuries and Police Response
The driver of the e-rickshaw sustained injuries in the collision and received necessary medical attention. In a stroke of luck, all four occupants of the car managed to escape without any physical harm. The accident quickly drew a crowd of onlookers to the scene.
Upon being alerted, a police team rushed to the location and initiated a thorough investigation into the circumstances of the crash. As part of the probe, the dumper has been seized and moved to the local police station. Authorities are also taking requisite legal steps concerning the other two vehicles involved.
Official Statement and Ongoing Probe
Acting police station in-charge of Rajepur, Kamta Prasad, confirmed that the primary cause of the accident was the dense fog that hampered visibility on the highway. He stated that the investigation, which involves three vehicles, is being conducted in detail to ascertain if any other factors contributed to the mishap.
This incident highlights the recurring danger that foggy winter conditions pose to commuters on North Indian highways, especially in the early hours. It serves as a critical reminder for drivers to exercise extreme caution, use appropriate lights, and reduce speed during such low-visibility scenarios.
