Dona Paula Dacoity

In April 2025, an elderly couple from the Dempo family suffered a traumatic ordeal when three robbers armed with daggers broke into their residence at Dona Paula. The assailants tied up 77-year-old Jaiprakash Dempo and his 71-year-old wife, Padmini, to their bed and carried out the robbery between midnight and 4 am. Nearly six months after the incident, police arrested an individual who had helped identify the house.

Mapusa Dacoity

In October 2025, at least six armed individuals clad in burqas stole approximately Rs 35 lakh in cash and valuables from the home of Dr Mahendra Ghanekar in Ganeshpuri, Mapusa. They held the doctor hostage and executed a planned escape route. The gang entered the house with a large knife and iron rods, tying up the doctor, his wife, his mother, and another relative using bedsheets and a sari, and gagging them with pillow covers. Police have arrested two people in connection with this dacoity.
