A shocking incident of domestic violence culminated in murder in a village near Chennai, after a father allegedly beat his son to death with an iron rod. The tragic event, rooted in the emotional fallout of a cancelled wedding, has left the Ovarasanpettai village in Chengalpet district in a state of disbelief.
A Wedding Dream Turns Deadly
The victim, identified as 28-year-old Wesley, worked as a food delivery executive for a private company. His father, 54-year-old Johnson, is a driver by profession. The family had been actively preparing for Wesley's marriage and had recently finalized a match. As part of the engagement rituals, Wesley, accompanied by his parents, had even visited the bride's house to present a gold ring.
However, the plans came to a sudden halt when the bride's family communicated that she was not interested in proceeding with the marriage. This rejection reportedly plunged Wesley into a deep depression. He began consuming alcohol frequently and, in his inebriated state, would often pick fights at home. He regularly abused his parents, blaming them for failing to persuade the bride's family to reconsider their decision.
The Fatal Night of Violence
The simmering tension reached a fatal climax on Saturday night. A heated argument erupted between father and son, which quickly escalated into a physical confrontation. During the altercation, both attacked each other—Wesley with a wooden stick and Johnson with an iron rod.
At a critical moment, Johnson managed to snatch the iron rod from his son and struck him forcefully on the head. The blow proved to be fatal. Wesley collapsed on the spot, bleeding profusely from his head, and died.
Police Action and Aftermath
Upon receiving information about the incident, personnel from the Chengalpet police rushed to the scene. They filed a case, recovered the body, and sent it to the Chengalpattu Government Hospital for a postmortem examination.
The police have booked Johnson for murder and he has been remanded to judicial custody. The iron rod, believed to be the murder weapon, was seized as evidence.
